Three-Week Cinematography

The Met Film School is London's leading provider of practical filmmaking courses, based at Ealing Studios.

Course Overview

Three-Week Cinematography provides a comprehensive overview of the technical and creative use of camera, light and sound. You will learn the key techniques, creative approaches and organisational skills involved in camera operation, lighting and sound recording. Covering a range of areas from focus pulling, using tracks and dollies, lighting for narrative or pack shots, operating the RED camera and more.

You will be given the chance to apply these skills in a number of filmed scenarios to enhance your working knowledge of cinematography. You will also work collaboratively in groups throughout the course, giving you an insight into an essential part of the production process.

This course will also allow you to gain a greater insight into professional sound recording techniques. You will learn key skills such as boom operating, using a professional sound recording kit, foley techniques and creating atmosphere.

Cinematography or ‘painting with light’ is one of the most exciting areas of the filmmaking process, where the lighting cameraman has the responsibility of collaborating with the director, lighting team, production designer and art department to create a distinct visual landscape in which the story can be told. Mastering these techniques takes many years but this course will provide you with an invaluable insight into professional working practices, on-set etiquette, and the inner workings of the camera department.

Through practical on-set training we will allow you to experiment with state-of-the-art equipment such as the RED camera, where you will learn operating skills, post-production workflow and how cutting edge digital camera equipment can be used to enhance the shooting experience. The skills you learn will be transferrable but we will concentrate on developing your understanding of a visual language, good storytelling techniques and a working knowledge of the lighting and gripping equipment used by the professionals.

For more information Request A Prospectus and our enrolments team will get in touch to talk you through the course.
