Course Overview

 

Young Filmmakers' Workshop is a weekend course that aims to provide young people aged between 14 and 17 with a thorough, hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of filmmaking. You will take part in a series of practical filmmaking workshops over the two days that will cover all aspects of film production. You will improve your technical and creative understanding of production processes, learn on-set working practices and develop an understanding of visual storytelling techniques.

 

The course covers the basics of direction, cinematography, and editing. Students will get hands on experience shooting a selection of scenes and devised pieces of increasing complexity that draw from Hollywood scripts and other film sources. This is a fun, challenging and exciting programme designed for young aspiring filmmakers who want to learn from professionals and develop good team working skills. A DVD of all work completed will be sent to the student after finishing the course.

- Understand key elements of visual storytelling and camera operating

 

- Know how to use a non-linear editing system to create meaningful sequences

 

- Know how to direct actors

 

- Understand how the roles of director, cinematographer, sound recordist, and editor interrelate through the experience on a collaborative production
