One-Year Practical Filmmaking is an intensive and highly practical course aimed at those dedicated to pursuing a career in film. Our latest research shows that over 72% of our One-Year Practical Filmmaking alumni are working full-time in the film or television industries.

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) has been our advisory partner on the development of this course, which will provide you with skills and experience in all key areas of filmmaking.

 

By the end of the course you will have written, produced, directed and edited; with the support of a professional Script Editor and Editor; three short films and numerous exercises, the last of which will be your graduation film made over a three-month period.

 

In addition to these practical examples of your work, you will understand and be proficient in directing, producing, screenwriting, editing, directing actors for the camera, cinematography, sound recording and design. Furthermore, by completing numerous practical exercises and collaborating on your fellow students' films, you will gain an understanding of the various roles required in film production.

Learning Goals

 

By the end of our One-Year Practical Filmmaking course, you will:

 

- be technically proficient in all aspects of production and post-production for film and related media, including writing, directing, producing, camera, sound, lighting, and editing

 

- be practised in the creative development and pitching of ideas and the application of production and post-production skills

 

-have been involved in the creation of three films, both individually and collaboratively as well as numerous exercises

 

- understand contemporary industry practice and be able to apply your skills in a professional manner and context

Minimum Age:  18 at start of programme

 

 

Entry requirements:  Students will need 50 tariff points to apply for our One-Year Practical Filmmaking course. If you are 21 or over these criteria do not apply.
