Have you ever harboured the ambition to become a screenwriter? Do you have good ideas, but are unsure how to develop them in a professional context? Do you want a professional screenwriter to read your script and give you feedback, or be given the opportunity to pitch your screenplay to an agent? Our Screenwriting Fundamentals (part-time) course is for anyone serious about learning the craft of screenwriting, whilst also improving their knowledge and understanding of the industry.
 
You will cover the necessary craft skills including dramatic structure, writing dialogue and action, characterisation, the importance of rewriting and developing storylines; you will also benefit from focused tuition on how to survive as a screenwriter, how to present your material (pitching sessions), and receive feedback on your submitted work.

Learning Goals
 
By the end of the course, you will:
 
- Learn the unique qualities of writing for the screen
 
- Understand the difference between the script and the completed film
 
- Understand the importance of a strong conceptual idea
 
- Have the opportunity to have professional actors perform scenes from your screenplay and receive their feedback
 
- Know what makes a cinematic screenplay
 
- Recognise the importance of dialogue and action
 
- Understand the various creative tools for developing a screenplay
 
- Appreciate the importance of audience in telling a screen story
 
- Be conscious of how genre affects the story you want to tell
 
- Learn how to find the right structure for your story

Entry Requirements: Our Screenwriting Fundamentals course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.
