Postgraduate Diploma in Filmmaking

The Met Film School is London's leading provider of practical filmmaking courses, based in Ealing Studios.

Course Overview

The Met Film School Postgraduate Diploma in Filmmaking, validated by Bournemouth University, is designed for those looking for an industry-relevant, practical postgraduate qualification.

The course is divided into six filmmaking units, each of which is designed to develop your skills and perspective encompassing drama, documentary, small screen, feature, genre, and experimental film. In each eight week unit, you will make your own film in a supported environment after participating in two weekend workshops combined with online learning and independent research and preparation. The course structure is designed to encourage you to learn independently whilst being guided by the skills and expertise of our tutors. The Diploma also offers you the chance to gain a Masters in Filmmaking by continuing your studies at Bournemouth University for a further 16 weeks.

For each unit you will negotiate with your tutor the assessment project and roles that will fulfil the assessment criteria in your own area of interest, for example that of Director, Producer or Cinematographer. This means that where possible, you can gain more experience for your chosen career path. Whatever role you fulfil, you and your fellow students will share the responsibilities for making sure projects are completed within the criteria and time set.

You will also have the option of completing any of the six diploma units as short courses, which can be taken individually or in any combination. As such you can choose those most relevant to your needs and tailor learning towards your preferred career discipline. If you complete all six units, you can also qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma in Filmmaking. The cost of each individual unit is £1,200. If you choose this study route you do not get access to production or postproduction facilities or the associated support, and will be expected to source your own kit and cover any production costs you incur. This option is particularly appropriate to UK residents and not international students.
