Met Student Shorts Selected For Screening At Edinburgh Festival

Five graduation shorts from recent Met Film School One-Year Practical Filmmaking course have been selected for screening at Edinburgh’s Cthefestival 2007.

Cthefestival is a new film focused event at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The renowned C Venues are programming a nightly screening of short films throughout the Edinburgh Festival in August.

This follows a mainstream film festival in 2005, and a regular programme in association with Future Shorts last year, both of which were great successes. This year the C Venues are putting together our own programme to screen short films from around the world each night.

Selection panellist and event manager Will Young comments: “We were very impressed with the quality of the films and their great sense of humour, which was a rare thing in all the films we received. We are confident we have some great films this year and Cthefestival promises to be a very exciting festival 2007”.

The films that have been selected include Mike Doxford’s comically touching story of a mute girl’s first kiss in Dumb Love, Martin Christien’s beautifully shot music video entitled Queen Of Stone, Alex Tanner’s black and white romantic comedy Sweet, Dan Wilson’s experimental music video Square Eyes and Henry Howe’s innovative Out of Hand which sees chess pieces brought to life as they escape the grasp of their angry players.

School Director Jonny Persey comments: “We are thrilled that this number of our student films has been selected. This is a great opportunity for Met graduates to be very well represented at a world-renowned festival”.

Armen Antranikian

(One-Year Practical Filmmaking) has just received a Jury commendation in the international Filminute competition for his film One Minute Guide To The Planet Earth. One of the jury commented "How refreshing to find such a delightfully off-beat guide to a place we could all use a bit more perspective on!". Armen has just completed his next short, which he shot earlier this summer in Brazil.
