What clearances will I need to sell or exhibit my film?

filming close up

It is recommended that you engage the services of a composer should you decide to use music in your film. Seeking music clearances for existing pieces tends to be fraught with bureaucracy and can be a costly exercise. At best you may get permission from the music publisher to use the music within your film for festivals only. This type of clearance normally expires after one year and you will be unable to exploit the film in any commercial context. For a list of composers we suggest that you put a call out on www.shootingpeople.org. You must also ensure that all of your cast and crew sign a release form.

Ella Vakkasova

(One-Year Practical Filmmaking) had a background in finance but had always dreamt of becoming a filmmaker. A presentation by Bernardo Bertolucci made her realise she was capable of making films and she signed up to the one-year programme four days later. After graduating she was accepted onto a prestigious MA programme at the National Film and Television School.
