Looking for a new direction? - great film courses for career changers

Do you long to do something more creative? Do you have a passion for film and storytelling? Are you looking to establish a career in the film industry? The Met Film School offer three filmmaking courses - One-Year Part-Time Filmmaking, From Story To Screen In Eight Weeks, and One-Year Practical Filmmaking - which present three different routes to making your dreams of becoming a filmmaker a reality.

On all three courses, you will write, direct and edit at least one short film, and gain extensive practical experience in all key areas of filmmaking, including screenwriting, lighting, camera and sound, production, casting, directing actors, and editing.

One-Year Part-Time Filmmaking (starting 28 April 2008) is ideal for those of you wishing to study part-time whilst continuing to work during the day as the course takes place on two evenings per week from 7 - 10pm.

From Story To Screen In Eight Weeks (starting 19 May 2008) is an intensive programme which runs full-time for eight weeks and is best suited to those wanting a short, project-based course covering all technical and creative aspects of professional filmmaking.

One-Year Practical Filmmaking (starting 19 May 2008) is the most in-depth programme available and is aimed at those dedicated to pursuing a career in the film industry and who can commit to a one-year full-time schedule. Also, if you book on the May intake of this course you will get a free place on any Part-Time Producing course - a great way to learn about the business side of filmmaking to compliment your practical skills.

Be kind rewind - vote for met student & Alumni entries

Several Met Students and Alumni have entered a short film competition being promoted by the distributors of the upcoming Jack Black movie, Be Kind Rewind. Entrants are asked to submit a spoof (or ‘sweded' version) of their favourite film lasting no more than 2 minutes.  Entrants are not allowed to use soundtrack music, or sophisticated effects and editing equipment, and the aim is to make the film comical. The first prize is a trip to Hollywood so it is a prize well worth playing for! The competition winner will be decided by the Director and a further winner will be decided by the film with the most views.  Please take a look at the films, keeping an eye out for Met students (one is a sweded version of Edward Scissorhands!) and rate your favourite at http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=bekindrewind or http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hLmQzTPjxPE

Each country's winning video will then be put through to the European final which will be judged by the creators of the game. The overall European winner will win a trip to Los Angeles to study for one month at the New York Film Academy. CLOSES: 21ST MARCH 2008

This screening and Q&A on 25 March offers budding filmmakers a chance to watch last years winning films and quiz the team behind the festival on the secrets to making festival-winning shorts. The event will begin at 6.30 for 7pm and will last approximately an hour and a half, followed by drinks, and will be held in Stage 1 at Ealing Studios. (One-Year Practical Filmmaking) was working as a runner and researcher in light entertainment TV before starting our one-year programme. She chose to study with us as, "it was the only school I found that let you write, direct and edit your own films and retain the rights to them. I loved my time at the Met, all the staff are helpful"
