One-year practical filmmaking - 28 january 2008
Do you want to write, direct and edit your own short films whilst learning the most up-to-date filmmaking skills from working industry professionals? If so, the Met's One-Year Practical Filmmaking course may be for you. This intensive programme has been designed for people dedicated to pursuing a career in film. Our latest research shows that over 76% of our One-Year Practical Filmmaking alumni are working full-time in the film or television industry. Over the course of the year you will learn key skills in all core areas of filmmaking and graduate with a showreel of material which includes two professionally graded short films that you have written, directed and edited.

Part-time acting for film - 28 january 2008
If you are looking to learn or develop existing acting skills for the medium of film, but cannot commit to a full-time schedule, this part-time acting course may be ideal for you. Taught by an acting coach and professional film director over the course of 14 weeks on two evenings per week (7.00 pm to 10.00 pm), you will learn core acting skills as well as all the technical skills necessary for you to perform confidently in front of a camera. You will act in filmed exercises and also shoot exercises yourselves so that you know what it is like to be on the other side of the camera. You will leave with a showreel of material to showcase your talents to casting directors and agents and the skills and knowledge to seek work as a film actor.

From story to screen in eight weeks - 28 January 2008
Do you have an idea for a short film and want to finally realise your vision? Or do you perhaps have a feature film idea and want to make a teaser trailer to help you finance the film? From Story To Screen In Eight Weeks is a highly intensive programme which provides you with practical experience in all of the key areas of filmmaking and culminates in the production of your own short film. This is our longest running course and so far over 240 students have completed this programme. It covers the essential craft areas of screenwriting, use of camera and sound, casting and directing actors, editing using Final Cut Pro HD® and script development.

BBFC Screening and Presentation of controversial film Princess
British Board of Film Classification presents a discussion and screening of a controversial live action/animation film courtesy of Tartan Films. The event is presented by the Film Education Consortium for Herts in collaboration with FDMX (Film and Digital Media Exchange) and is aimed at students of Film/Media studies, particularly those studying issues of censorship and certification and shocking cinema, undergraduates with an interest in cult film, animation and censorship and is also open to the general public. This suitably controversial but stimulating film screening (rated 18) is a chance for students to engage with issues raised by the film and become more familiar with the work of the BBFC as presented by John Dyer, BBFC Education. Film Crew Wanted for legal documentary
A group of five law students from the University of Westminster are looking for a small film crew to shoot a 25 minute legal documentary. Ushers required at BAFTA!
Do you want to see the new releases? Would you like to catch up with old favourites? Might you be interested in getting involved with Q&As? BAFTA are looking for diligent, conscientious, discreet, and keen students to join in the capacity of usher. BAFTA host many screenings each month and we are currently looking to expand our fantastic team of ushers.
The ushers would donate their time on a voluntary basis, and in return would be able to see the BAFTA screening on that evening. Recent screenings with Q&As were: Lions for Lambs screening attended by Robert Redford and Tom Cruise and; Control attended by Sam Riley, Samantha Morton and Anton Corbijn. Love in the Time of Cinema: An Evening With Mike Newell
Film director Mike Newell will take to the stage for a masterclass and Q&A after a full screening of his classic films Donnie Brasco on Wednesday 5th December at the University of Hertfordshire. Charting his career to date, the audience will get an insight into what working with such Hollywood greats as Johnny Depp, Al Pacino, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and, not to mention, all those at Hogwarts, is really like! Doors open at 5.30pm with the screening beginning at 6pm. The Mike Newell interview and Q&A will start at 8.30pm after refreshments at 8pm. Chills in the Chapel
The Union Chapel is one of London's finest Gothic buildings, a rambling, confusing building with spooky corridors. For the first time ever it is being used to present a unique film season. For 5 nights in the run up to Christmas the spooky gothic Union Chapel will be transformed into a site specific cinema, screening five of the best classic horror films ever made. Initialize Films Producers' Lab on European Co-Productions
Supported by The UK Film Council through Skillset and Olswang, Initialize is project-based skills development programme for 16 experienced producers who have a feature film project in development. The course will run in January and February 2008 with main course tutors Rebecca O'Brien (Wind That Shakes The Barley) and Christine Alderson (Irina Palm, Opening Film, Berlin Film Festival, 2007). The programme includes practical workshops; one-to-one feedback on your project and case studies from leading experts on co-productions, as well as pre-selected one-to-one market meetings with European producers at the Berlin Film Festival, participation in the Berlin Co-Production Market (2 days) and accreditation for the Berlin Film Festival. Recently, the Metropolitan Film School helped One-Year Practical Filmmaking student Tom gain work in the film industry on graduating. Only two weeks after finishing at the Metropolitan Film School, Tom was accepted onto a highly competitive two-month internship with Ealing Studios’ production company Fragile Films. “I got the job thanks to the Met who organised the interview for me”. Tom is also currently applying to the LFS post graduate course to continue his studies.
