This week we continued with Victoria and worked on budgeting and scheduling a short film. These were both fairly practical sessions where we broke down a script into a budget and schedule on Movie Magic software, which is the industry standard programme. It was really great to actually think about breaking down a script and was quite exciting to move on from the development stage and see how a film is actually made.
They were both such useful sessions as previously I would have had no idea how to even begin scheduling a film and have left me feeling more confident that if I wanted to produce a short in my spare time, I would know how to go about getting the production made once it had been developed. It did also confirm to me however that my interests mainly lie in the creative side of production rather than in line producing or financial producing but it is brilliant to have an understanding of the different producer roles; an understanding which would I'm sure be invaluable on set and throughout a production.
Recently, the Metropolitan Film School helped One-Year Practical Filmmaking student Tom gain work in the film industry on graduating. Only two weeks after finishing at the Metropolitan Film School, Tom was accepted onto a highly competitive two-month internship with Ealing Studios’ production company Fragile Films. “I got the job thanks to the Met who organised the interview for me”. Tom is also currently applying to the LFS post graduate course to continue his studies.
