Week 14: The Reality Of Independent Production

In this, the final week of the course we had a session each with Carlo and Neil, which were opportunities to pick the brains of these experienced industry professionals and gave us a chance to consolidate anything we were unsure about and ask for their advice on our own projects. As I mentioned in my blog last week, my confidence that this really is possible has grown and has in fact inspired me and one of the other students to set up a production company, combining our skills, knowledge and contacts and move forward with the two feature projects we have so far individually been developing on the course. This means that we have two fantastic feature projects, both at very different stages, which we are going to take forwards and produce as a team. The tutors have been enormously supportive in assisting and encouraging us to take this step and we are so excited about what the future will hold. I have to thank the Met so much for this brilliant course as without it I honestly wouldn’t have had the knowledge, confidence or contacts to take this fantastic step towards achieving my goals. When I agreed to write this blog for the Met I really had no idea what the course would really be like and whether it would be of any use at all, in fact I wasn’t even convinced that I wanted to be a producer and had considered that maybe I wanted to work in marketing and distribution, but I have been thrilled with everything about this course, from the content to the tutors - and has convinced me that producing is the route I want to take as well as having given me the confidence to start immediately. This course has truly been everything I could have hoped for and more and I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone wanting to kick start their film career. Thank you Met!
